We often forget how much we rely on our feet on a daily basis and how neglected they are hiding under our socks and shoes. Our feet deserve loving attention and care to prevent foot problems from occurring.
Some general guidelines on how to take care of your feet (because they deserved to be pampered!):
Trim your toenails straight across. Avoid cutting the corners. Use a nail file or emery board. If you find an ingrown toenail, contact your GP.
Use quality lotion to keep the skin of your feet soft and moist, but don't put any lotion between your toes.
Choose socks and stockings carefully to support good blood circulation. Wear clean, dry socks every day. Avoid socks with holes or wrinkles. Thin cotton socks are more absorbent for summer wear.
Get shoes fitted properly by a sales consultant. Check how your shoe fits in width, length, back, bottom of heel, and sole. Chose shoes that are made with natural leather and have deep toe boxes.
Lace-up walking shoes are a good choice as they are supportive and the fit can be adjusted
Don't smoke or sit cross-legged. Both decrease the blood supply to your feet.
If you have diabetes, it's important to check your feet regularly to prevent major foot problems from happening.
We've only got one pair of feet for life and so we need to take the right steps to keep them healthy.
